Sightera Biosciences has developed an AI drug discovery platform and therapeutic asset portfolio to accelerate the delivery of transformative therapies to patients worldwide
Despite remarkable advances in precision medicine, drug discovery remains slow, expensive and largely target-driven. Although AI has accelerated the drug discovery process, models trained primarily on public available databases continue to generate candidates that frequently fail in clinical development. Many promising drug candidates do not adequately capture the complexity and heterogeneity of human disease. In oncology and fibrosis, there remains a critical need for novel therapies that address currently undruggable biology and deliver meaningful benefits to patients with limited treatment options.
Sightera Biosciences has developed a proprietary discovery platform that starts from patient-derived drug-response biology rather than predefined molecular targets. By combining scalable patient-derived organoid models, we generate unique datasets to train our AI algorithms to discovery and design novel small molecules for a defined patient population via a biomarker guided strategy, including molecular glues and other innovative modalities such as novel payload classes. Our technology enables the design of novel small molecules that deliver both monotherapy activity and intrinsic synergy with existing standard-of-care therapies, maximizing their potential in combination treatment regimens.
Sightera Biosciences is a spin-off from the University of Antwerp and Antwerp University Hospital, built upon years of translational research in drug discovery, artificial intelligence and patient-derived disease models. The company was founded by an interdisciplinary team combining expertise in pharmaceutical sciences, oncology, computational biology, artificial intelligence and business development. With the support of Qbic and our academic ecosystem, we have translated cutting-edge academic innovation into a novel type of biotech company.
Our ambition is to become the leading AI-native biotech company by building a strong portfolio of potential medicines while establishing our proprietary platform as a valuable engine for therapeutic innovation. Over the coming years, we aim to advance our lead programs towards clinical development, expand our pipeline in oncology and fibrosis, and establish strategic partnerships with global pharmaceutical companies to accelerate the delivery of transformative therapies to patients worldwide.
